Many people today are professional poker players and earn a full time better than average (in some cases a lot better than average) income from playing online Poker Tournaments. Of course many of us play poker purely for entertainment purposes with friends as well as strangers especially when playing online poker.

There are even some players who play poker for the purpose of escaping personal debt, and maybe they are playing every day, making poker a much more serious event. This is the most dangerous reason to play poker as the debt threat negatively affects decision making in all but the strongest of mentalities.

If you make the decision to play poker for a living, it is essential to be very responsible. Because you are playing as a profession, you must treat it like any other profession, and approach poker with same responsibility as you would approach an employed job. Indeed, you should approach it more seriously than that – It is your own business so any time wasted or spent cruising the net for example is your own time and money wasted not your employers! Playing full time poker games and Poker Tournaments is a serious business.

If you are not winning as much as you would like, or if the table chosen is not producing the results you are expecting, you should take a break to try reverse your fortunes before you get too deep in the hole.

Probably the best thing about full time poker is that you can pick and choose events much more freely. Subject just maybe to family time demands you can play the poker tournaments and poker games most suited to you and not have to find time at evenings and weekends.

You should also have a lot of successful and profitable poker play experience before you take the full time step and have a good sized bankroll to start with – as you will need to withdraw from it for your own income.

If you are an up and down player, good at times, really bad at others and can now and again go on the tilt and lose a lot then full time is not for you. You’ll only end up crashing bigtime and back at the job center! If this is you keep practicing and get better until you reach the mental level needed for full time play.

Tournament Poker is where you will win your most money, but before giving up your day job, become a great player and get some cash behind you.

I am no expert, but have played a lot of Free Poker Tournaments and buy in tournaments and, through experience both good and bad, have learned what to avoid.
You probably will do them at times, in the ‘heat of the moment’ but maybe not, good luck!

For me a good poker player is one who doesn’t get personal with the rest of the players, meaning he does not want to get even with someone who made a bluff and took his bet earlier. The next hand is something new. Perhaps the opponent(s) has a better hand. It is all a matter of probabilities. Experience teaches you about the odds of winning each hand, ability of calculating the probability of winning in a short time is helpful, but the best thing to remember is that a Poker Tournament is a ‘marathon’, not a ’sprint’.

Knowing when to raise and when to fold is what makes a good poker player, even if he is holding a ‘good’ hand. A ‘good’ hand depends on many things. How many of your opponents have folded during the blinds? If they are many, this means that probably the ones who stay in the game have a good high hand. With a low pair the probability of getting three of a kind is limited and most of the time you end up with what you had at the beginning while your opponents could easily have a high hand.

But even if you have three of a kind, you have to be careful. Many hands have been lost by people going ‘all in’ when they have three of a kind or a couple of aces. These do not do much against a flush or a straight. It is critical that you pay attention to the cards currently on the table, not the ones that you want on the table. If this happens, then probably you will lose the hand. It is not a matter only of the hand you have, but also of the hand that your opponents could have.

A good poker player studies also the way his opponents play. Do they bluff a lot? Are they conservative in their play? This, of course, is not a rule, but just an indication. An aggressive player bluffs more than a conservative one. The bad thing is that you cannot be sure at any time.

In order to win in a tournament, you have of course to have luck on your side, but also know how to avoid being over-enthusiastic. For me a good poker player is the one playing with patience. It is better not to have the biggest stack of chips when you enter the final table of the tournament, but to wait patiently, preserve your coolness, bet only if you have to, and wait for the others to lose their chips. In the end, it does not matter if someone has more chips than you, since he could lose them all in one hand. He will be out and you will still be in the game.

The best thing that a good poker player has to remember is that, as stated above, any poker tournament be it buy in or free Poker Tournaments are a ‘marathon’, not a ’sprint’.

Ok, there are many different types of poker and types of
Poker Tournaments. The most popular and easiest to pick up is Texas Hold ‘Em. Other games include 7 card stud, 5 card draw. There are many more different types of poker, these are the ones I favour myself.

Texas Hold ‘Em is the fastest game of poker you can play, and is even better when it’s a no limit game. No limit is what is says on the tin, there are no limits to the bet or the pot. No limit is definitely not for the faint of heart!

If you are new to poker, the best advice I can offer is that you avoid the no limits games and stick to limits until you have more experience behind you. If you find yourself constantly giving away your chips it can be quite demoralising and you may end up losing interest in the game.

Ok, a couple of hand card advice tips for playing in a Poker Tournament. First one, and I can’t stress this enough, DO NOT get ‘married’ to a pair of aces. There are a lot of people who go all-in on a pair of aces, then end up getting taken out by superior ‘complete’ hands.

Basically put, a pair of aces is only that. They are a great hand to have, but not the best, and you can still find yourself losing out to a better hand, such as a straight or flush.

Next tip. Statistically the worst hand you can be dealt is a 7,2. But this does not mean that you couldn’t beat someone with it, it’s just a very poor hand to be given!.

A lot of people like to slow play winning hands, this is ok if you think there is no chance of someone beating you, but don’t slow play a flop flush if you aren’t holding the relevant ace of the flopped suit.

A great tip to think about is to tilt. To tilt means to let your emotions rule your game. It normally doesn’t pay off, but sometimes it can. Most players usually tilt for the most common reason of losing a hand. They will then try to gain their chips back by needlessly betting large amounts or even all in.

Poker is a game for the patient, so bear that in mind when entering poker tournaments. If you can’t be patient then you are going to struggle. You aren’t going to get good hands all the time so wait for them..

I look forward to seeing you in a Poker Tournament soon.

If you are just starting out in the magnificent game known as Texas Hold em poker, and want to have a go at playing in some poker tournaments, here are a few pointers to help you.

First sit back and let the game come to you. How do you accomplish this you ask? It is simple, play very tight in the first few rounds and get to know your table and opponents. ie. betting patterns, type of cards they play, what hands are winning on the table.

Also, when starting out only play quality first hands like pocket pairs higher than 8’s Ace King, Ace queen, avoid playing hands like pocket fours ace rag, ten jack, and jack queen to name a few.

Another tip when playing poker tournaments, is to always lose with pride. There is no point in berating or belittling another player’s play this just makes you seem like a fool. Remember not everyone has the full knowledge of the game. A good hand to you might not be a good hand them and vice versa with bad hands.

Now on to the most important part of winning poker is calculating pot odds. What are pot odds you ask?

Pot odds are what most pro’s use to help in decision making processes. They are determined by calculating hand odds versus money in the pot.

For instance, you’re in a poker tournament, you’re playing heads up and your opponent holds ace queen off suit and you hold eight, nine of hearts. Now say there is 8000 chips in the pot and the flop comes seven, queen, three, with two hearts.

Your opponent leads out for 10k and you’re not sure what to do. Calculate the 9 remaining hearts time 4 (only on flop times by 4).this gives you about a 40% chance of hitting the hand.

Now since there is 18k in the pot and u need 2 call 10 you are getting better than 3/2 odds on your money so the right choice is to call. Now say the turn is a eight your opponent leads out for 25 thousand.

Now to recalculate your odds you would times your outs by 2. You have 14 outs (9 hearts, 2 eights, and 3 nines) so basically 30% chance of winning it on the river. There is now 53k in the pot what do you do.

This is very close so I would say call but odd wise it says fold. Why you ask? Because you’re almost a 3-1 underdog while only getting 2-1 on your money which in return marks a bad investment. But sometimes you just need 2 follow your gut and play off instincts.

Hopefully you will find my tips useful and look forward to seeing you at the poker tournaments tables soon.

No matter what type of poker you play, free poker or high stakes buy in online or offline you’re no doubt aware of the crowd of people who want to tell you what to play and how to play it.

Some of these people have won millions of dollars so feel they have the right to tell players how to play.

Unless you’re totally hopeless and just don’t get poker at all the fact is that nearly all players play just about the same way. Some may call with hands slightly worse than another or chase slightly worse draws to the river but they are playing the same buy in or poker tournaments you are just with slightly less or more risk.

A lot of things pro’s tell is just TV talk to make them look like they are stars when in fact the best in the world may win 1 in 100 times.

No one person’s game is ever 100% correct and it never really matters how you play either. Pro’s or “Pro donks” as I call them try to tell you that you need to play wild and crazy because one first place can be millions of dollars where as just making the money, say 50k, you would have to win 20 times to make the same amount. This is true but many of the people saying this have never won a WSOP main event or even have a WSOP bracelet!

Personally I think pro’s just say a lot of this stuff on TV in hopes that the people watching will mimic what they say.

Here are 4 of my “top free poker pro tips” things you need to take with a very large (ocean sized) pinch of salt! Doubtful? Try doing them all in free poker tournaments and prove us wrong!

Picking up “tells” on players and acting accordingly.
The tell you pick up may not be right or the player you think you have a tell on was giving away the tell to use it later as an advantage. Good poker players can switch style’s as easy as they switch persona’s. The read you had 15 mins ago may no longer be applicable. People will say “oh watch this pro he makes the best reads” what they don’t notice is the 20 times before that hand that he/she was wrong.

Go for 1st or go home!
There is nothing wrong with just trying to make the money. In most pro poker games you’ll be making $25k+ and who is to say you won’t win after that? Many times I have been the low stack when it gets to the money and go on a wild run to go on and become final table. Having a ton of chips is nice to play with yes, but not really needed.

Mix your poker play style up a lot to confuse opponents.
This is a very common tip and one that I’ve said many a time too! It is true but again misleading. If no one has seen any of your hands all they can do is guess. A player may look super tight only calling once in a blue moon. This could mean he is super tight or It could mean that he/she has been getting absolute junk for the last 40 mins. Also a player seems to be wild and crazy may actually be getting/hitting hands. Until they have actually seen your cards you are safe.

Bet/call 3x plus or don’t bother playing.
Good advice but again misleading. I’ll see a poker pro tell players this on TV and the very next hand they limp in the pot for the min with 6 8 suited. It’s a good play if you have a monster hand and want to lower the playing field but there is nothing wrong with just calling regardless of what you have. You can flat call with junk to get priced in to see a flop or you can flat call with AA so as to throw everyone off as to what you have.

Remember, free poker tips are just, well “Tips”. They’re not the answers to all your needs and questions and can fail.

As is so often the case in life, tips are only useful in context when you fully understand how and when to apply such method or philosophy. My advice…not tip…is simple. Play a lot of free poker games and get good before you start to throw money about, then the pros tips may be more meaningful.

Controversial or just obvious? Do men and women play poker in different styles even in free poker tournaments and is the fairer sex better?

This may not be something that a lot of players are able to pick up on. However, I have noticed it a great deal from playing at different tables both free poker games and high stakes, online and casino. My observation is that lady poker players tend to be a little more careful than male players. They tend to play hands less frequently, and just take down small pots in order to keep above water. Male players on the other hand, are more aggressive; they are more likely to take bigger risks, and get themselves involved in larger pots.

Although it may be a biased opinion, I feel strongly towards my claim and have no doubts about what I’ve learned, as I say, it’s based on many hours of play at many different free poker games and paid online and offline tables.

Another observation is that it can be easier to push a woman off of a pot than a male player. Women tend to avoid the larger pots as I’ve mentioned already. That’s why it is often easier to buy a pot off of a female player than against a male.

Before anyone gets offended by that statement lets keep in mind that this happens because of the more conservative game played by many ladies – And this can, on the contrary, give the ladies a big natural advantage.

This is because men tend to jump the gun a little bit. They’ll try to force hands that aren’t meant to be. Not to say that only they do it, but once again, it’s just something I’ve noticed from playing myself. It seems to be especially prevalent in free poker games and tournaments where despite the lack of risk the women play a more sensible game with a more strategic objective as opposed to an all-in and hope mentality.

Overall, everybody has their strengths and weaknesses, there are very conservative male players and absolute manic women

The fact that you have read this far proves that you’re a better poker player than most either in real ability or potential. Accepting that you may have gender related playing styles can only be a good thing. Self analyse and determine what those traits may be and look to enhance the good and minimise the bad. Practice at free poker tournaments and never stop trying to improve!

More and more females have started playing poker and Free Poker Games. It has always thought to have been more of a sport for the male of the species, but here we look at how women playing poker could be a good thing.

Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus was a popular book published in 1992 by John Gray and explores the differences between men and women. One popular topic in the book is the differences between men and women’s point systems and how they react to stress. Overall the book suggests that men are active and dominating while women are passive caretakers. Prior to this the feminist movement took great strides to stop people from thinking that men and women are different, establishing that both genders are equal. The differences between men and women, is an age old question that is an ongoing topic for discussion. However, there have been postulations regarding the differences between men and women in regarding biological, sociological, and psychological factors. The purpose of this article is to explore the differences and similarities of both genders and its affect on poker decisions.

Dr. Louann Brizendine wrote a book in 2007 titled The Female Brain. According the Dr. Brizendine the female brain is more adept at studying faces enabling them to distinguish a bluff during a poker game. Also the area of the brain in the female that tracks gut feelings is larger and more sensitive then a man’s giving the woman an advantage.

In addition, a woman’s brain is designed to get less agitated than a man’s brain. Men tend to get angry more quickly and rapidly then a woman. This ability to remain composed will give any woman more advantage during a poker game. Remaining composed during a competitive game allows women to be more objective and make better decisions instead of reacting emotionally.

Lastly, Dr Brizendine states that “the female brain is gifted at quickly assessing the thoughts, beliefs, and intentions of others, based on the smallest hints (p. 120-121). This gift allows women insight into identifying a bluff, reading poker tells, and assessing someone’s style of play.

Overall, the woman’s brain functions to allow her to be a great poker and Free Poker Games player. So, how different are men and women? Well, we do know that their brains are different. With this information, women have some brain functions that will serve to be useful in a poker game that is typically dominated by men. Untapping the gifts of the female brain will serve all women well in poker.

So, next time you are playing Free Poker Games, look out for the women!

If you’ve played them you’ll know that free poker freerolls are a very special breed of poker tournament!

To be successful you need to approach the games in a certain way. Here are 10 critical tips that WILL help you win a load more online free poker tournaments.

1 – Patience is Critical
This rule is first because it is absolutely the most important for winning free poker usually have a many players and can take a few hours to finish. If you want to reach the final table you MUST be very patient.

2 – Be Aggressive
Freerolls are mostly multi-table tournaments and you will usually be seated at a table of ten throughout the tournament. This is a good thing in a way because this means you don’t need to adjust your playing style to suit a shorter table, but it also means that good hands should be played aggressively. Top pairs like AA and KK should always be raised strongly before the flop as they can often come unstuck after the flop.

3 – Play Few Hands.
As well as being aggressive you need to be controlled and play few selected hands. Don’t be tempted to play all the hands. Play tight and wait for the good hands, then play them aggressively. A good strategy is to fold hands with cards less than 9.

And know your hand names! Even in free poker it’s important that you know the names of the various hands so that shop talk from other players doesn’t throw your focus, e.g., AA = Bullets or American Airlines etc.

For example (and there are dozens more)

4 – Use your table position to your advantage.
For example, if you are first to third in betting, a QT is not that great a hand. There are 7-9 players after you and if any of them have a pair or an King or an Ace with Jack or Queen then you’ve got problems. But if you’re at the end of the betting and you can check or call, then your QT becomes a better prospect. If nobody has raised yet then your Queen might be good and it is certainly worth having a look at the flop.

5 – Vary your play. Be unpredictable.
While you must be patient and wait for good hands, be sure not to become too predictable. If you play only big hands and always raise then your opponents are going to start backing down and let you take the blinds. In such a situation you can’t win enough to keep in the game as you are playing too few hands.

6 – Avoid bluffing.
I advise that generally you don’t bluff. In freeroll free poker there are 10 players so there is a very high probability that someone has a good hand each time and will go up against you. If you must bluff never go all-in, it’s almost certain that you’ll be called by a good hand and blown up.

7 – Take care on draws
Draws (e.g. you have 5,7 and there is a 6 and 8 in the flop) can be very tempting. But they can be very dangerous too. If you chase draws you could end up losing a lot of your chips. Don’t ever bet too much on these.

8 – Watch your opponents and their playing style.
Observing opposing players can give you the edge in free poker tournament. Learn how they bet pre-flop and post-flop, their play style, their aggression etc.

9 – Focus
Keep your focus and do not multi-task when you’re playing in a poker tournament. You’ll do a lot better if you focus 100%.

10 – Treat freeroll Free Poker Tournament seriously.
OK free poker might be low risk with low money loss (in the case of NoPayPOKER no loss risk at all) BUT you are investing your time and it’s good to win so play like it’s the WSOP!

And remember one thing whenever you play in free poker freerolls you’re getting valuable experience by playing against a wide range of player types, styles and attitudes. This can only be a positive thing especially if you’re ambitious and the free poker tournament world is just your starting block on your WSOP journey! Good luck and see you at the NoPayPOKER freeroll tables.
